Just by looking at it you can tell how powerful and capable the Ram 1500 is, but what makes it that way from the inside? The Ram 1500 has three high-powered engine options that deliver intense strength out of this hard-working truck. The towing and payload capabilities of the 2019 model are the best the Ram 1500 has ever had. For a large truck it’s able to offer good fuel efficiency along with all of its performance power. Follow along with Southtown Chrysler as we outline all of the performance capabilities that make the Ram 1500 one of the toughest and most powerful trucks on the market.
Ram 1500 Engine Power
New in the 2019 Ram 1500 is the eTorque mild hybrid system. It uses a 48-volt battery pack to create quick start-stop functionality, peppy torque and quickly re-energizes the brake force. The system adds between 90 and 130 lb-ft of torque on either the 3.6L Pentastar V6 or 5.7L HEMI V8 engines. The 3.6 Pentastar V6 offers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, all before the eTorque addition. The 5.7 HEMI VVT V8 gives you 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, as well before the eTorque added launch. You can also choose the 5.7L HEMI V8 MDS without eTorque. Whichever engine you choose, your Ram 1500 won’t be lacking in power or capability.
Ram 1500 Towing and Payload Capabilities
The new 2019 Ram 1500 can tow more and take on a heavier payload than ever before. From this powerful truck you can tow up to 12,750 lbs (5,783 kg) and haul a payload of 2,300 lbs (1,043 kg). The bed of the Ram 1500 has been widened to store 1,521 L (53.7 cu-ft), so you can fit even more on it. To manage all of this heavy utility and for simple loading and unloading, a new bed step is available for quick access to the truck bed. The 2019 Ram 1500 is a beast of a truck, capable of towing large trailers and boats, while taking on heavy loads in the rear.
Ram 1500 Fuel Efficiency
Enjoy some of the best light-duty gas efficiency on the market from the Ram 1500. Recent gains have been made from the eTorque of the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, thanks to the belt starter-generator, dual-independent cam phasing and thermal management. Outside of the engine, a new roof shape, grille shutters on the hood and its tailgate spoiler all contribute to provide better fuel economy. The 5.7 L HEMI VVT V8 engine on the Ram 1500 Sport gives you 13.6 L/100km combined economy on the 4×2 and 13.8 L/100km on the 4x4. For a large, powerful truck, you get great fuel efficiency from the Ram 1500.
