Both the Ram 1500 Classic and the all-new Ram 1500 have similar engine types, but with a few key changes. Both models are equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar V6, that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, and the 5.7L HEMI VVT V8, with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The change comes with the new Ram 1500’s eTorque power, which gives an additional 90 and 130 lb-ft of torque, respectively. A 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 option is also offered on the Ram 1500 Classic, delivering 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. If power is one of your main needs, then take a good look at which engine will quench your performance thirst appropriately.
The most notable difference you’ll immediately see between the new Ram 1500 and the Ram 1500 Classic is in the grilles. The new Ram 1500 dropped the classic crosshair grille and instead adopted a host of differing designs which harness a new-age sensibility, with Ram lettering logos surrounded by sleek inserts. The rest of the body has been redesigned for the most current Ram 1500 model, creating a truck that is both slimmer, wider and more lightweight, to be even more aerodynamic while still maintaining its powerful look. To help set it apart, the older Ram 1500 has been given a “Classic” badge to further accent its traditional style. An interior refresh has been done on the new model, as well, boasting a newly designed steering wheel, instrument dashboard and an overall cleaner look to give a more luxurious finish.
Depending on the Ram 1500 you’re looking at, there’s a different selection of trims available for your perusal. For the Ram 1500 Classic, you’ll get to choose from five different trims: ST, Express, SXT Plus, SLT and Night Edition. Conversely, the new Ram 1500 provides a variety of options for anything you need a tough-acting truck for: Tradesman, SXT, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Limited. The Ram 1500 Classic trims will satisfy you if you just want a simple truck to help you get all the comprehensive utility a truck offers. The new Ram 1500 is for those who want more premium features in their truck and for specialized functions. Look into the Big Horn and Rebel for hardworking capability and the Laramie and Limited for the height of truck luxury. Take some time and browse not only the model you want, but also the trim, at Southtown Chrysler.
